staying put

Although the Christmas decorations came down,

these festive lights are staying for awhile.

Two Hour Delay

We have awakened to a white snowstorm today.

(Sorry about the odd bluish color.
With all of the white snow and the very gray sky,
plus my beginning photography skills,
I just couldn't get the color adjusted the way I would like.)

This means a two hour delay
(whew, at least we can make it to school!)
Steve woke up at 4:30 to go and clean the parking lot and sidewalk of St. Christopher Church.
Of course, I woke up then, too!
I have a million things to do at school,
but I think I will wait until the roads are a little more clear until I venture out.

So, with some time to spare,
let me share what I bought on a trip Michelle and I took to World Market, last Monday.

President's Day turned out to be such a gloomy day.
World Market, filled with bright colors, was just the jolt of happiness we needed.
I had been given two of these hand-painted knobs from Ted and Jess around Christmas.

Because it takes me forever to make any decorating decisions,
I just recently decided that I wanted to use the knobs on my green desk.
Of course, I need six knobs.
Thankfully, World Market had five, so I bought four -
no one knob is like the other.

I also found these colorful ceramic measuring spoons.
This was the only set in my four favorite colors!

On the back, you see the measurement of that size spoon.

I'll choose these, any day, over plastic spoons!

One Week Later...

The big ice storm of 2011 began one week ago.
Here is where we are today...

Icy back walkway, in part due to the fact that we shoveled off most of the snow.

Skating rink for a driveway.

ICY, ICY front sidewalk.

Plants buried under ice and snow.

Gross, brown ice mountain surrounding each side of our driveway.
One wrong move to either side and "ouch" to the car.

I am hearing a possible temperature of 5 degrees tonight.

Next summer, when I am complaining of being too hot, I will take a look at this post.
Being hot isn't so bad.

Stay warm!

Snow day two

This is what greeted Henry and me this morning.
It may not look too bad, but this is ice, not snow.
Our back door was iced shut, so I took Henry out the front door.
We slid down the steps.
Good thing I could grab the railing.
Of course, Henry refused to do anything but try to get back up the steps.

Hmmm...just got the phone call.
Another snow (ice) day tomorrow.

Snow day one

Okay, a snow day is always fun
(even though we will miss a four day weekend in another couple of weeks due to a snow makeup day.)
The best part is not driving to school on sloshy, icy, snowy, slick, and/or slow-moving roads.

So, today during our ice storm, I graded papers (put off for far too long.)

I crafted with some bookends I picked up at a garage sale a couple of years ago.

Now I need to complete the other bookend!

I read.

Of course, then there is Henry.
He has to be forced outside and will only dribble because he freaks out so easily.
I think he may be depressed.
He is not sleeping.
He just won't look at me.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring?

Update:  I just received the phone call - my school district will not have school tomorrow.
