upward and onward

The kitchen backsplash is up and grouted.
Sealing and then caulking are up next.
I am amazed at how the simple tile changes this space into a kitchen.

Steve has begun to put up the trim.
Once it is all up I can paint it a bright white.

Finally, I now have a bulletin board for the kitchen.

I found these little wooden tacks which match part of our cabinets.

We do need to find the lamps I purchased that are from an old Burger King.
We think they may be in our neighbor's house.
No, they didn't steal them.
It is a long story, but I have casually mentioned to Steve that it is now time to find those things and get them hung.

The list is getting shorter:

finish and hang cabinet doors
clean all cabinet interiors (open concept cabinetry is not for me!)
unpack any kitchenware still in boxes and organize the inside of the cabinets
make archway from living room to kitchen (Steve's idea, not mine)

move Hoosier cabinet to the basement
move Grandma Bessie's 1950's stove to the garage
build wall and opening from the kitchen to the mudroom
move fridge
move the coffee cabinet into the house, then add counter and tile
paint the rest of the kitchen walls and the ceiling
lay flooring
finish all trimwork
finish painting the windows

Hmmm...
the list looks long, but we are slowly but surely getting there!

basement remodel

The basement is being remodeled, along with our kitchen.
Actually, this part of the basement is the only part that has not been remodeled.
Since the kitchen directly connects with this portion
(and this portion is positioned under the kitchen)
the basement is getting a much-needed facelift, too.

Michelle and I convinced Steve to leave this small portion of brick wall.

Yea!

Take care,
Denise

This Week

Gus loved carving pumpkins with Aunt Meesh for Halloween.

Michelle spent an afternoon sewing her owl costume.  It is quite lovely.

There was a little dinosaur trick-or-treating at our house!

Steve put in the first new window in our kitchen.
Since we will have cabinets under the windows,
he has to build the wall up for the smaller window to fit.

Michelle was the Speedway High School Student of the Month for October.
Here she is with her favorite teacher, Mrs. Harrison (who nominated her) and Steve.
Steve was able to leave work for an hour to attend the little ceremony.
The teaching profession doesn't allow me to leave for an hour.
Bummer for me.

Gus came over to play trains with Papaw.
He loves putting together the train track.

What a busy and fun week!

Take care,
Denise

Let's get this show on the road!

Remodeling the kitchen
begins with
painting at least part if the living room.

Our hutch currently
resides in front of one
of the kitchen windows.

This hutch needs to move
to the living room on the wall
where the bookcase is.

So, the bookcase needs to
move to another wall.

However, that wall needs to be painted
since I filled in holes and did
not have the correct color of
paint on hand.
Actually,
I thought
I did, but once the paint dried,
I noticed paint splotches everywhere.

Four day weekend = time to paint.
Well, at least paint one wall.
For some reason,
I have no motivation to
get moving on this project.
I think the new paint I bought
is lighter than the current color (which I do love.)
Which means, at some point,
I  will need to
paint each wall.
Maybe tomorrow will bring some excitement
to get this show on the road!

Take care,
Denise

changes?

After eight years...
talk of adding on...
not being able to make decisions...

I think we are going to remodel
our kitchen.

Here it is
straight from the 1940's...

Steve has a plan.
I am going with that plan.
We will have a smaller space
(is that possible?)
but, the space should be
much more efficient.

Stay tuned...
